Dear Congregants:

April has brought us many special opportunities for music: Passover, Yom Hashoah, Fiddler on the Roof, and weekly Shabbat Services. I trust that the Festival of Passover and the Remembrance of Yom Hashoah were meaningful to you and your families.

During May, we celebrate both High School Graduation and Confirmation. As our children go out into the world as young adults, we honor them and wish them well on their life journeys. They are a part of us and a part of our community. We have watched them grow up and become the young adults that they are today. Their happiness and success is a cause to rejoice for our entire synagogue. We wish them the best.

This month we will be celebrating the festival of Shavuot as well as Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day) and Lag B’ Omer. On our festivals, we sing music that is specific to the holiday. For instance, the traditional melodies for Passover are different from the traditional melodies of Shavuot. I urge you to attend services to worship and hear these special songs.

Lastly, my upcoming music festival on June 8, 2001 will feature the music of Kurt Weill. The son of a cantor, Maestro Weill went on to compose many favorite songs as well as settings of prayers and psalms. I look forward to seeing you there.

B’shalom,

Cantor Oreen Zeitlin
